The Shape of Modern Ministry – Specific Calling-Purpose-Anointing

As I watch various ministries on television, I’ve noticed that different ministers have very specific anointings and messages. Together with their unique revelations, these ministers have the ability to alter the atmosphere and dismantle specific strongholds. Joseph Prince, Dr. Anita Phillips, Joel Osteen, Bill Johnson, Darius Daniels, Sara Jakes-Roberts, Toure Roberts, Joyce Meyer, and Bishop Jakes himself come to mind. Each unlocks a specific door that tears down the power and captures territory from a specific demonic principality. Young people often refer to these abilities as their “superpowers.” These are divinely bestowed superpowers in ministry.

I’ve observed that individuals who exhibit these abilities have the following qualities:

  1. They have experienced hardship and have been set free from it. Their “knowing” is in their bones; it is not merely intellectual.
  2. They have discovered (God had revealed to them) a truth that goes against the grain. They will be somewhat controversial, at least at first.
  3. They have a level of consecration to God that gives them the grit to endure the persecution that a change agent has to endure. The bigger the principality they are bringing down, the deeper the grit they have developed. And the grit has been formed through more suffering, hardship, pain, and often bondage (before they are set free).
  4. The principality they address has usually imbedded itself in specific church doctrines and historical belief systems. Their perspectives usually change the thinking of people in the body of Christ. It begins appearing as heresy and gradually becomes the accepted way of thinking, usually within less than a generation and sometimes even within a few years.
  5. Even with this focused vision, purpose, or intention, they are still well-rounded ministers and not myopic. Their well-roundedness and capabilities as a generalist (preaching, ministering, shepherding, moral character and maturity, and deep (studied) knowledge of Christian doctrine) are the soil in which the revelatory seed is planted. Most of them hold degrees or have received ordination, and they actively participate in the broader church ministry. They seem to comprehend that their role in transforming the body necessitates their service to it.

So, what is my “superpower”? What in my own personality embodies the first four characteristics above?

It is the ability to see the purpose in things, to remove the extraneous, and get to the heart of the matter. I guess at heart, I am a researcher, a nerd. But an anointed nerd. My anointing is to see other people, to see their purpose, and to help them get there by helping them see their own purpose. I see the visions and intent of God in people’s lives. In a nutshell, I see others’ superpowers and help them see them so they can fulfill their purpose. I love connecting them with the people who can help them see their calling and purpose.
